Brent Hinds , the co-founder and guitarist of the Grammy-winning heavy metal band Mastodon , has sadly died. He was 51.
According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office, Brent was killed in a motorcycle accident in Atlanta on Wednesday night (August 20). Police confirmed that an SUV failed to yield at an intersection, causing the crash, per THR .
Brent helped form Mastodon in 2000 alongside Troy Sanders , Bill Kelliher , and Brann Dailor . Together, they released eight studio albums including 2002’s Remission and 2021’s Hushed and Grim . The band earned six Grammy nominations over the years and won Best Metal Performance in 2018 for their song “Sultan’s Curse.”
