MIDLAND, MI – A man has been sentenced to decades in prison for shooting his girlfriend at a Midland Olive Garden last year.
Midland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Jay Beale sentenced 42-year-old Robert R. Monit on Wednesday, Aug. 20, to a minimum of 20 years in prison, according to court records.
In March, a Midland County jury found Monit guilty on all 11 charges brought against him, which include assault with intent to murder, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, aggravated domestic violence, two counts of felony firearm, and six counts of assaulting, resisting, or obstructing police.
Prior to his conviction, Monit, of Westland, rejected a plea offer that would have helped him secure a lesser sentence.
