Clark County Fire Marshall Donna Goddard has extended the county’s burn ban, which went into effect July 3, to include recreational fires. Goddard said recreational fires are prohibited in unincorporated areas of the county effective immediately.
According to a press release Thursday, extending the burn ban serves as a preventive measure to help avoid the risk of grass or brush fires resulting from escaped campfires. The ban will remain in effect until further notice.
Not banned are self-contained camp stoves, which Goddard said are a safe and easy alternative for outdoor cooking.
The fire marshal also recommends creating defensible spaces around homes to help prevent wildfires from spreading to a residence or vice versa.
Other recommended measures for both rural and urban areas includ
