A man who led police on a high-speed chase through residential streets in Niagara Falls walked out of court a free man on Thursday.

Lemar Hamilton appeared in the prisoner’s box in Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines and pleaded guilty to charges of flight from police and dangerous driving.

He was sentenced to 12 months in custody, which was reduced to time served due to the amount of time the 35-year-old had spent in pretrial custody.

The Etobicoke resident had served just more than eight months behind bars.

In November 2024, court was told, the Niagara Regional Police street crime unit launched an investigation into a male suspect believed to be in possession of a firearm in Niagara Falls.
