If you're driving around South Philadelphia on Thursday, Aug. 21, you might notice the new signage being installed on the arena that the Flyers, Sixers and Wings call home.
The former Wells Fargo Center officially becomes Xfinity Mobile Arena today. The name change was announced in May by Comcast Spectacor and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment but didn't take effect until Thursday.
The arena's first event under the new name was to be Thursday night's the Who’s farewell tour , but the band postponed.
The Xfinity Mobile Arena, formerly known as First Union, Wachovia and CoreStates before Wells Fargo got the rights a decade ago, is to remain through the 2030-31 season, upon which a new arena is expected to be built at the South Philly Sports Complex.
