LIVINGSTON, Texas (KTRE) - The Livingston Volunteer Fire Department is turning 110 years old. The department was created in 1915 after the City of Livingston gave control and the equipment to volunteer citizens. Since then the department has been through many changes.
Today they have four fire stations and 40 members. They are also one of 10 Polk County VFDs. Two of the department’s longest-serving members, Corky Cochran. who has been the fire chief since 1978, and firefighter Frank O’Neill talk about the department’s evolution and about Saturday’s event. Both men joined in November of 1967, which they it was a coincidence.
On Saturday, August 23, they will celebrate and invite the community to come out. They will serve hot dogs beginning at 10 a.m. and have a truck dedication ceremony a
