PHOENIX — Phoenix matched a daily heat record on Thursday that was originally set just six years ago.

The thermometer at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the National Weather Service (NWS) uses for the city’s official records, reached 114 degrees around 3:15 p.m.

The daily heat record for Aug. 21 was originally set in 2019.

Metro Phoenix is an extreme heat warning that was originally supposed to end at 8 p.m. on Friday but was extended until Sunday.

There is also a chance for monsoon storm activity.
