In a stunning reversal of fortune, President Donald Trump's stalwart attorney Alina Habba has been barred from prosecuting two different groups of criminal defendants who challenged her authority as the would-be Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey.

In the underlying case , which dates back to 2021, Julien Giraud Jr. and Julien Giraud III are charged with several counts related to an alleged marijuana distribution conspiracy. In late July , the Girauds moved to dismiss the charges on the basis that Habba was not legally appointed.
