There was carnage on a road in north Manchester on Thursday evening (August 21) after a driver ploughed into a lamppost and wiped out parked cars.

Emergency services raced to Factory Lane in Blackley at around 5.15pm to reports of a collision involving one vehicle.

Dramatic images form the scene showed how the vehicle had hit a lamppost, sending it toppling to the ground, before striking a Mercedes and multiple other cars parked in a layby.

The white vehicle was then flipped over onto its roof in scenes of devastation. Witnesses said they saw two people inside the vehicle, which had also struck the kerb and a bollard, who were checked over by paramedics.
