WASHINGTON COUNTY, Mo. — A Washington County deputy shot and killed a suspect who drove "directly at him" following a vehicle pursuit Wednesday, Sheriff Dwayne Reed said in a statement.
Reed, in a statement, said the deputy was pursuing the man because he was wanted for questioning regarding the assault of the man's girlfriend. In addition, Reed said, the man allegedly had stolen the vehicle he was driving from the girlfriend.
Reed said the pursuit concluded when the suspect stopped behind an abandoned house on Furnace Creek Road. After the deputy got out of his patrol vehicle, he ordered the man to get out of his vehicle.
Instead, Reed said, the man tried to flee in the vehicle but crashed into a tree after going a short distance.
