A Democrat running for Senate in Ohio revealed what he thinks is President Donald Trump's greatest weakness during a podcast interview on Thursday.
Sherrod Brown, who previously represented Ohio in the Senate as a Democrat from 2007 to 2025, told progressive YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen on his show "No Lies" that congressional Republicans could be a liability for Trump in the elections. Focusing energy on the Republicans who enabled Trump during his presidency may yield a few new seats for Democrats, Brown argued.
"You don't talk about Trump," Brown said. "You talk about those elected officials who enabled them and hold them accountable. Trump's not on the ballot again. These guys are on the ballot."
Brown said Trump's economy could make the strategy even more successful because Trump campaigned on a promise to lower the cost of living for workers.
"I think it's breaking through in the sense that people's lives are measurably worse," Brown said. "People see that I mean I've been in grocery stores...going through the checkout line, and people have to put some of their groceries back because they cost more than they expected. I mean, people feel that, they know that, they see what might happen sooner rather than later in rural hospitals."
The economy could also help Democrats win back some of the workers Trump courted during the 2024 election.
"I just think we've got to just continue to remind people of what they've lost," Brown said. "Things have gotten worse in these eight months. There's no question about it."
