The former co-founder of the heavy-metal band Mastodon was killed in a motorbike crash this week.
Brent Hinds was 51 when his Harley-Davidson collided with a BMW SUV in Atlanta, Georgia.
The accident took place at approximately 11.35 pm on 20 August, police told Atlanta News First. They later added the cause had been the female driver of the SUV's failure to yield after making a turn at an intersection.
Hinds was found "unresponsive" at the scene of the accident, a police report stated.
"The male appeared to be operating a Harley Davidson during the time of collision," the report went on. "Medical personnel pronounced the male deceased."
Hinds had departed from Mastodon in March after 25 years with the band, and while the split was initially described as mutual, he later implied it had not been amicable.
The band's remaining members shared a statement to social media expressing their grief over his death.
"We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we've shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many," the statement said.
"Our hearts are with Brent's family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone's privacy during this difficult time."
