MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Murfreesboro City Council voted to approve construction for Phase II of the Medical Center Parkway widening during Thursday’s meeting.

The project widens Medical Center Parkway to six lanes from Thompson Lane to the Fountains at Gateway. It also adds an additional thru lane in both directions along with turning lanes and traffic signal changes from Thompson Lane to the Fountains at Gateway.

The city said it will “increase capacity and improve traffic flow,” which will help with congestion.

City engineers have recommended using the same annual contracts for the construction of Phase II to help save funds.
