USSELLVILLE, Ark. – A stuck gate has led to lowered water levels on Lake Dardanelle, officials said.

According to a post from Russellville Mayor Fred Teague, the US Army Corps of Engineers is working to fix an issue with a stuck gate at Dardanelle Lock and Dam.

The post states that the issue arose after a routine maintenance process where a gate was opened to release water and debris, but it didn’t close properly on Wednesday morning.

USACE engineers said they believe the gate may be stuck due to friction, heat expansion or mechanical binding. A USACE release states that engineers are using special lubricants and winches from crane barges to pull the gate down.
