ICE arrests have skyrocketed across California over the past two months. 

While the White House says it’s targeting violent criminals for deportation, many immigrants with no criminal history are being swept up at significant levels. 

July marked the second month in a row where ICE arrested more immigrants in California with clean criminal records, than those with past convictions or pending charges. 

That’s according to government data provided by ICE in response to a FOIA request to the Deportation Data Project and analyzed by NBC Bay Area. 

Of the nearly 3,000 immigrants arrested by ICE across California last month, about 54% of them have never been convicted or charged with a crime, according to the data.
