NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- On Sunday, 18-year-old Dillion Cornelius was shot and killed on Crown Street in New Haven after an altercation. On Thursday, close friends and family met to remember the young man.

"Dillion just graduated from high school, class of '25,” Cornelius’ mother Kelly Jones said. “He was supposed to be going to college in two weeks, so now this is not happening."

Jones organized Thursday's vigil after her son was killed at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday. According to the New Haven Police Department, Cornelius was associated with a group that got into a gunfight with another group, which was caught on video. Cornelius was shot multiple times and later died at Yale-New Haven Hospital. • The scene on College Street where an active homicide investigation is taking place.
