CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - It’s not called the War for the Wheel, but SEMO and SIU’s soccer rivalry is just as intense on the pitch.
Southern Illinois got the better of SEMO, 2-0, Thursday, in a high-intensity showdown in Carbondale.
The Salukis took the lead late in the first half, with Dory Latenser smashing home a shot from a yard out, a lead they’d hold through the half.
And in the second, Southern’s offensive grip on the game continued. Several corners provided scares for SEMO, with the Dawgs threatening a second goal for much of the half.
The Redhawks had a couple of moments in the second half, particularly Melissa Kubin’s chip into the box and Justi Nelson’s corner, but ultimately Southern Illinois would find a way to bury it.
