Former Mexican boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was deported from the United States this week after spending over one month in ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) custody.
“I understand he was deported. I don’t know if it was yesterday or this morning, but we were informed that he was arriving in Mexico,” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Wednesday .
Chavez was transferred to Mexican authorities at the border, and he is currently being held in a federal lockup in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
Chavez was arrested on July 2 and was processed for expedited removal from the United States. The arrest stemmed from an active arrest warrant in Mexico related to organized crime and weapons trafficking. Additionally, he faced charges in the U.S. related to illegal p
