A 72-year-old pedestrian died Thursday afternoon in McCully after being struck by a vehicle that drove past a stop sign without stopping, according to police.

At about 1:23 p.m., a woman was walking eastbound on Young Street when she was hit by a car driven by a 67-year-old man traveling north on Kemole Lane who “disregarded a stop sign (and) initiated a left turn onto Young Street,” according to the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel responded but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorist remained at the scene, said police, who added that speed, drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be factors in this crash.

This was Oahu’s 55th traffic fatality this year, compared with 26 at the same time in 2024.
