PAWTUCKET — Rhode Island FC is certainly better than its USL Championship standing would suggest.

Just three points separate Rhode Island from the bottom of the Eastern Conference table. Birmingham Legion FC trails Rhode Island by two points in those standings and didn’t appear nearly as competitive as the Ocean State club on a rainy Wednesday night in Pawtucket.

The unfortunate side for Rhode Island, in its 1-0 win over Birmingham, the USL Jägermeister Cup quarterfinal win has no bearing on championship games. Rhode Island will advance to the tournament semifinals, but not before it returns to league play on Saturday against Hartford Athletic. A win at Hartford is arguably more vital than the welcomed result against Birmingham.
