HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) – A sixth person has died from Legionnaires' disease connected to the outbreak in Central Harlem, health officials announced on Wednesday.
The patient died outside of New York City earlier this month. The city's health department reported that 111 people have been affected by the disease, with seven remaining hospitalized.
The bacteria that cause Legionnaires' disease had been found on 12 water cooling towers in Harlem. The properties included Harlem Hospital and a sexual health clinic.
Remediation of all of the cooling towers was completed earlier this month.
