New Castle County Police said what began as a welfare check has turned into a murder investigation.

On August 14, 2025, officers conducted a search of what was reportedly a vacant house on Balfour Avenue.

The body of 53-year old Clifton Bailey was found inside. He was dead of an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.

An autopsy by the state medical examiner's office confirmed the death as a homicide.
