GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The records from former Grand Rapids Police officer Christopher Schurr's murder trial will be destroyed, a judge determined.

Schurr was charged with second-degree murder for the death of Patrick Lyoya in June of 2022, before the trial in 2025 ended in a hung jury .

Kent County Prosecutor Christopher Becker decided against retrying the case and signed off on that intent in May.

Schurr then asked the court to destroy all of the arrest records, fingerprints and biometric data from the trial and investigation. The motion he filed also asks that Schurr's records on the Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) be destroyed, along with a request that any entry concerning the murder charge on the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) be removed.
