WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) - President Donald Trump is doubling down on his crime crackdown in the nation's capital. On Thursday, he visited law enforcement and National Guard troops now patrolling D.C.
The White House says the effort is already driving down crime but it's also sparking growing protests.
The White House says more than 600 people have been arrested since federal authorities stepped in last week.
"We've had some incredible results. The results have come out and it's like a different place. It's like a different city. It's the capital. It's going to be the best in the world,” said Trump.
Not everyone is applauding the move. Protesters have filled the streets, raising concerns about how far the president is going with federal power over local police.
