The M5 is facing huge motorway tailbacks due to crashes and holiday traffic.

According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, motorists are being held on the southbound lane of the major motorway between Junctions 19 and 20.

The jam is thought to have been caused by a collision, but officials have noted the situation has been worsened by "holiday traffic". 12:55 Ryan Fahey

National Highways says traffic now released

Taking to social media, National Highways said: "Traffic has been released on the #M5 southbound in #Somerset between J19 (#Portishead) and J20 (#Clevedon) following a collision.

"All lanes have reopened on the #M5 northbound between J20 and J19. Thank you for your patience, please have a safe onward journey." 12:52 Ryan Fahey
