There is an active shooter Friday morning at Ingalls Shipbuilding, a Mississippi shipyard that builds vessels for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard, according to a media statement from HII, the manufacturer's parent company.
There are "early indications" that at least one person has been shot, HII told CBS News. No information about the person's condition was provided.
Law enforcement is responding to the situation, HII said, and the company is "doing everything possible to ensure the safety of our employees." The statement said all personnel are being urged to "shelter in place" and await further instructions.
Jackson County sheriff John Ledbetter said the shooting happened at 7:30 Friday morning.
