ATLANTA, Ga. ( WWSB ) — Local State Senator Joe Gruters is on the verge of a major political promotion.

Happening in Atlanta, Republican National Committee members are expected to elect Gruters as their new chair. The move comes after Michael Whatley stepped down to run for the U.S. Senate.

Gruters isn’t facing any challengers.

President Donald Trump endorsed him, calling Gruters “a wonderful choice” to lead the party. That backing effectively cleared the field before anyone else could enter.

Gruters has served as the RNC treasurer since 2025. Today’s vote is expected to make his rise to chairman official.
