Five late-inning runs weren’t quite enough to lift the Palisade High School softball team out of an early deficit as the Bulldogs dropped their first contest of the season 10-5 on the road at Cedaredge on Thursday.

Clutch hitting evaded the Bulldogs through the early going. Over the game’s first four innings, Bulldog batters compiled three hits, two walks and four free bases awarded via hit batters, but were unable to string them together for any runs. By the time that Palisade scored its first run of the game, in the top of the fifth inning, the Bruins had already built a six-run advantage that they would not relinquish.
