TACOMA, Wash. — Former Seattle SuperSonics star Shawn Kemp is expected to be sentenced Friday in a case stemming from a shooting at Tacoma Mall in 2023.

Kemp pleaded guilty in May to one count of second-degree assault , after previously facing a charge of first-degree assault. Friday's open sentencing will allow prosecutors and the defense to make sentencing recommendations.

Prosecutors are recommending a sentence range of three to nine months in prison with up to 12 months of community custody. It's currently unknown what the defense will recommend.

Kemp was accused of participating in a shooting between two groups of people in the mall parking lot on March 8, 2023.
