The professional Maryland Cycling Classic will return to Baltimore on Sept. 6 with new flourishes that include a redesigned course, the transition to a technical circuit race, and the addition of a professional women’s race.

“One of our original goals has always been to include a women’s bike race,” said John Kelly, chief innovation and strategy officer for Kelly Benefits Strategies and the Maryland Cycling Classic event chair. “We’re really excited that things worked out this year.”

Steve Brunner, executive director of the Sport & Entertainment Corp. of Maryland which owns the Maryland Cycling Classic, also confirmed that men and women will compete for equal prize money: $25,000 up for grabs in each race, including $10,000 for the winners.
