More than a dozen Michigan beaches for the second week in a row are under bacteria advisories — or are closed — as Michiganders head into the last week of August and the start of the Labor Day weekend.

In a state with more than 1,000 beaches, state officials say 17 public and private beaches in counties across both peninsulas aren't fit for swimming as of Friday, Aug. 22 — likely because of wildlife contamination, according to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, which provides information via an online dashboard.

Beaches with closures or advisories

Michiganders who are looking to visit their local beach should avoid these:

Bath Township Park Lake Beach, Clinton County

Child Lake Estates, Oakland County

Eagle Harbor Beach, Keweenaw County
