YORK, Maine — No swimming will be allowed this weekend on southern York County's popular beaches as lifeguards put up their red flags for Hurricane Erin .

Swimming is off limits in York for the duration of the weekend, the town’s Parks and Recreation Department posted on their Facebook page Aug. 22. Meanwhile, Ogunquit lifeguards put up a double red flag to indicate no swimming the same day.

“Dangerous rip currents and rough surf conditions pose drowning risk at all York County beaches,” York Parks and Recreation wrote in the post. “Stay out of water.”
