CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - An initiative aimed at saving lives by keeping drunk drivers off the roads is happening Saturday, August 23 in Iowa.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is teaming up with law enforcement agencies for Saturation Saturday.
A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study found 2 out of 3 people will be impacted by drunk driving in their lifetime.
It also reports 37 people in the U.S. die in drunk-driving crashes every day.
In Iowa, drunk driving fatalities have increased by 38 percent since 2019.
MADD’s Regional Executive Director Erin Doherty says Saturation Saturday is nationwide initiative started to fight impaired driving ahead of Labor Day weekend since that’s such a specific time of year when DUI’s increase across the country.
