Longmont police arrested a man Thursday evening after he barricaded himself in a Baker Street garage and allegedly strangled and pointed a rifle at another person.

James Murray, 37, was arrested at 5:38 p.m. after a four-hour standoff with police in the 700 block of Baker Street, according to an arrest affidavit. He finally left the garage after a Longmont SWAT team used gas to get him out.

Murray got into an argument with a friend over Murray’s behavior before Murray allegedly pointed the gun at the man, strangled him briefly and covered his mouth with his hands, according to the affidavit.

The man whom Murray reportedly strangled told police he was in pain following the incident. No other injuries were reported.
