A Lauderdale County man was arrested Thursday night (August 21, 2025) after authorities say he opened fire on deputies during a roadside safety checkpoint.

According to Sheriff Ward Calhoun, the incident happened around 9:49 p.m. on Highway 19 South near the north end of Wilkerson Loop Road. Deputies had just established the checkpoint when multiple gunshots were fired from a nearby residence, striking a sheriff’s department vehicle. No deputies were injured.

Deputies later arrested 27-year-old Dakota Lowell Frasier. He has been charged with four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. No bond has been set.

The case remains under investigation and will be presented to the next available grand jury, Calhoun said.
