The FBI searched the Maryland home and Washington office of former Trump national security adviser John Bolton on Friday as part of a criminal investigation into the possible mishandling of classified information, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Associated Press video journalists in Washington were among the first on the scene. Rick Gentilo described how the newsroom responded when the news broke.
“Early this morning in Bethesda, Maryland, former adviser to Donald Trump, John Bolton’s home was searched by the FBI. As an AP journalist, I was assigned to go to the location of Bolton’s home,” Gentilo said. “Shortly after getting there, we got word that his office was being searched as well.”
Nathan Ellgren quickly headed to the site of the office search.
“I was minutes away and was one of the first cameramen here on site. When I drove by, I saw him speaking with FBI agents in the first-floor lobby,” Ellgren said.
“It’s important to remember that Bolton once worked for Trump, but after being fired in 2019, he became an outspoken critic,” Ellgren added. “Bolton has recently voiced concern that the Trump administration might investigate him.”
