The National Weather Service has extended its extreme heat warning for the Portland-Vancouver metro area from today through Tuesday morning.

Dangerously hot temperatures from 96 to 103 degrees are now in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.

Today and Saturday are expected to be the hottest days.

Temperatures are expected to hover around 100 degrees in Vancouver through Sunday and begin to decline Monday. However, high temperatures won’t truly dissipate until Wednesday or Thursday, said Thomas Schuldt, a meteorologist for the weather service’s Portland office.

Warmer evening temperatures will not give relief for people overnight, which can be a compounding factor for heat-related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, Schuldt said.
