Kilmar Abrego, the migrant whose wrongful deportation in March to his native El Salvador made him a symbol of President Donald Trump’s aggressive immigration policies, is expected to be released from criminal custody in Tennessee soon, his lawyer said on Friday.
A Fox affiliate in Nashville had earlier reported that Abrego had been released and was on his way to Maryland to be reunited with his family, citing his lawyer, Sean Hecker. When contacted by Reuters, Hecker said Abrego had not yet been released but that he hoped Abrego would be released soon.
