Syracuse, N.Y. — Rickie Collins Jr. will be a backup quarterback for the third-consecutive season after losing the Syracuse job to Notre Dame transfer Steve Angeli .

However, Collins’ standing on the Orange’s depth chart is higher than any role he had in two years at LSU.

Syracuse’s coaches have made it clear to Collins all week that he is one play away from seeing the field this season and is still part of their future plans.

The reassurances have given Collins confidence after an intense competition throughout fall camp.
