The runway at the Bangor International Airport is closed Friday afternoon after a small plane crash killed one person.
There is no estimated time on the runway reopening, airport spokesperson Aimee Thibodeau said. It’s standard procedure for runways to close after a crash, she said.
Some flights to Bangor were en route when the crash happened, according to flight tracking. Those were rerouted to Portland, including an American Airlines flight from Chicago and another from Charlotte, North Carolina.
A single-engine Cessna crashed around 1:20 p.m. outside the fence around the airport’s runway. One person died, Bangor Fire Chief Geoffrey Low said.
