MECOSTA COUNTY, Mich. — The Mecosta County Sheriff's Office reported one of its deputies shot a 36-year-old woman Friday morning after responding to a call on Hayes Road.

A homeowner had called law enforcement around 11:20 a.m. and said the woman was on his property and refusing to leave.

While deputies were speaking with the woman, she refused their commands and assaulted them. She then threatened deputies with a weapon.

The sheriff's office said that the deputies faced an "immediate and significant threat to their safety" in that moment, "forcing" one of the deputies to shoot her.

The woman was brought to a nearby hospital and then transported by Aeromed to a hospital in Grand Rapids for what the sheriff's office said were "non-life-threatening" injuries.
