A new sports dome located on the campus of Northern College in Porcupine will drastically change the city’s recreational prospects for decades to come.

“We kind of started talking about it probably late last spring, or early summer,” said Jaret Dicks, Executive Director of Marketing, Communications, and External Relations, with Northern College.

The 125,000-plus square foot facility, along with a clubhouse, will be built in what is currently an open field to the east of the integrated emergency services building, before the Whitney Arena.

“That was one of the determining factors too, right? We had to make sure what land was ours, what land was the city’s?” said Dicks, adding that the college owns all of the necessary land.
