LEWISTON, Maine — A Waterville man is facing several charges after a high speed chase with Lewiston police ended in a crash into a building early Friday morning, according to officials.
At around 1:11 a.m., officers tried to pull over a Ford Fiesta for excessive speeding.
The car failed to stop, leading to a brief chase up Pleasant Street, officials said. The chase, which reportedly reached speeds up to 80 mph, lasted for 55 seconds.
The chase ended when the car crashed into the MT Bottle Redemption Center at 1445 Lisbon Street, according to officials.
The car then caught on fire, which began to spread to the building. Officers on scene attempted to put it out with fire extinguishers, while trying to remove the driver, Christian Grenier, from the car.
