WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. -- A man accused of child sexual assault was extradited from South Carolina to Wisconsin to face charges. He made an initial court appearance on Friday.

Jeremy Schertz, 52, formerly of the Wisconsin Dells area is charged with two counts of first-degree child sexual assault. Police began investigating Schertz last year, but said the assaults allegedly occurred in 2012.

The charges against Schertz were filed on June 4 and a nationwide arrest warrant was issued on June 25. He was found and arrested by the Horry County, S.C. Police Department on Aug. 12.

Horry County is located in the northeast corner of South Carolina and includes the Myrtle Beach area.
