JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - A Beloit man who pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault of a child was given the maximum sentence in prison, the Rock County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

David Hamlet, 38, will spend 25 years behind bars and 15 years on extended supervision after sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in late 2023.

In August 2023, Hamlet was staying with the family of the victim, officials said. By December, he was assaulting the 14-year-old, had given her drugs and had impregnated her.

The District Attorney’s Office argued for the maximum sentence, saying that Hamlet “feels nothing for the victim,” and took zero accountability.
