SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - On Friday afternoon, Savannah State announced the passing of incoming freshman Donometric “Tank” Hambrick Jr., an incoming member of the Savannah State University Class of 2029.
Hambrik Jr. tragically passed away in a drowning incident over the weekend, just days before he was scheduled to move into Wright Hall.
The university says the student was nicknamed “Tank” for his spirit of determination and resilience, and that he had chosen Savannah State over several other universities because he felt a deep connection to their campus and community.
Hambrick Jr. is remembered as an exceptional scholar — graduating with a 3.5 GPA and earning the highest SAT score in his high school.
