The U.S. government will take a 10% stake in Intel , President Donald Trump said Friday — an extraordinary step toward blending the public and private sectors. The president’s comments left much about the deal unclear, though, and Intel declined to comment on his assertion.
“They’ve agreed to do it,” Trump said at the conclusion of remarks to journalists in the Oval Office on Friday.
The president’s comments didn’t specify anything about the nature of that agreement. The Associated Press reported that the White House planned to announce details later Friday.
The remarks come days after the Japanese tech fund Softbank announced a $2 billion investment in Intel , buying roughly 2% of Intel’s common stock.
