Starting a season fast is typically a goal for every team, every year. Is it imperative or even indicative of a team’s success for the remainder of their season? Not necessarily. That said, a hot start never hurts.

Take, for example, the 2024 Coronado Islanders girls’ volleyball program. That group stormed out of the gates red-hot, winning six of their first seven matches. That hot start proved to be a glimpse of what was to come, as that ’24 Islanders team went on to have the greatest season in program history—featuring a league title and a 37-win season.
