The stage is set for the celebration of the Shops at Redbird happening this weekend. The southern Dallas mall, over the years, has gone through changes and faced challenges.

People living in this community are glad it’s still standing.

“I like it,” Hakeem Carbins, who lives in the area, said. “Real good neighborhood. I like the state of improvement they are doing.”

Carbins, like many others, appreciate what’s happening in the neighborhood.

What was then called Redbird Mall opened in 1975. It was a grand part of the community, but times changed and put its future in jeopardy.

“What you saw was migration to further suburban areas of Dallas, Cedar Hill, Desoto, Duncanville,” Russell Glen Company CEO Terrence Maiden said.  He was also raised in Redbird.
