Two weeks after perhaps his best start of the season, Red Sox right-hander Walker Buehler is headed to the bullpen.
Boston manager Alex Cora made the announcement Friday. He did not name a starter for Monday's game at Baltimore, which would have been Buehler's next scheduled start.
Buehler pitched six scoreless innings at San Diego on Aug. 8, but his momentum did not continue. He surrendered six runs on eight hits and eight walks over his next two starts.
Buehler, 31, was a postseason hero with the Dodgers just 10 months ago. He started Game 3 of the World Series, pitching five scoreless innings against the Yankees. Two days later, he closed out the series-clinching Game 5 with a perfect ninth inning.
